With all the commotion around the illuminated man, Mustafa wants to get to the bottom of this once and for all.
He thinks back to the time on night x when they tried to work out where he would appear.

Then he considers the accounts from the caretakers and the logs from volunteers on the arrays of night lanterns.

And then he decides to collect whatever he can about sightings that people claim they have seen.

After speaking to people and collecting reports, the caretakers and Mustafa begin to sift through sighting reports.

One caretaker says quietly:

"All the sightings of this man based on where we thought he would be seem to be from behind or very far down a row...

"I'm not sure anyone has claimed to see his face..."

Mustafa thinks back to day 1 when he met the man. he didnt see his face either. Mustafa was looking down.

They decide to take all the logs of where people think they have sighted the man.
Each night, the congregation shifts.
But some positions are always occupied. No matter the crowd and the position of the sighter.

When Mustafa overlays the records from multiple nights, something emerges.

Each line represents one position the illuminated man was said to have been sighted to occupy on different nights by different people:

Only positions reported at least 6 times are considered reliable.
